Blogger Friends Forever: Texture

Emma's second choice for her week was texture! I've done a caviar mani before, so I wanted to do something a little different. I though sugar might be cool, but knew I'd probably be sleeping with this manicure on and didn't want to invite anything to a fest while I was sleeping. Blech! So I did salt instead.

I dipped my nails in salt one by one after painting them with OPI Call Me Gwen-ever. As the pictures tell, I was kinda scared to do clean up because the salt didn't stick very well. I think this looks kinda cool, but isn't very flattering to my nub nails. It reminds me of sugared fruit. This didn't last very long because it kept catching in my hair and I wound up just rubbing them all off after a short time. It sure did spice Gwen up a little. She was kind of boring at first.

Blogger Friends Forever: Animals

Today's theme is animals! I was really excited to this one because I love animals :) I chose my top five to use for this mani. Here's the ones I freehanded:

My favorite animals are #1 Dolphins #2 Otters #3 Ducks #4 Tigers and #5 Lions. I had lots and lots of trouble with the otter and the detail on the duck was a challenge. In the end, I still think they're pretty cute. The lion is by far my fave. He just looks adorable! What's your favorite animal?!

Materials used:
Dolphin: Revlon Royal, Blue Mosaic, Bundle Monster BM 320, Pure Ice Silver Mercedes.
Otter: China Glaze Elephant Walk and black acrylic paint.
Duck: Kleancolor Neon Aqua, Zoya Pippa, OPI In My Back Pocket, black acrylic paint.
Tiger: China Glaze Desert Sun, black acrylic paint.
Lion: China Glaze Kalahari Kiss, Desert Sun, Orly Buried Alive and black acrylic paint.

Blogger Friends Forever: 80s

Here we go for 80s day! Since I was only a fetus when this decade closed, I don't have any personal experience with it. I did some google and referenced The Wedding Singer for some help and came up with checkers, neons and splatter.

Checkers remind me of the 80s. Probably because of The Wedding Singer and his sheets. You mean you don't remember his sheets?! Good, you're normal. I started with a base of Pure Ice white, then stamped with Cheeky CH3 and L.A. Colors Circuits. Then I used straws to splatter with China Glaze Hang Ten Toes, Surfin' for Boys, Sun Kissed, I'm With the Lifeguard, Splish Splash and Beach Cruise-r. I was completely satisfied with my splattering and then decided to do one last blow on my thumb because it needed more purple.

That was clearly a mistake.

Indie Swatches: Fanservice Nails

I've gotten a lot of indies recently. Usually as soon as they come in I wear them and take pics, but I haven't posted most of them yet. I'm going to try to clear them out this week. First up is the rest of my Fanservice Nails polishes. First up is Clownfish Driving a Sports Car.

Orange shimmer with opalescent glitter. This polish was not the easiest to apply, but wasn't awful. Anything with glitter makes hard clean up, and that was the case here. I still really like this polish. Next time I wear it, I'd like to put it over a red to bring out more red it. I think it'd look even better. This was two coats.

Next up is Gwen Cooper:

Gwen Cooper is a dark red scattered holo polish. It is absolutely gorgeous. It's like a England St. George's red sister. Applied like butter. I think this was only one coat.

And now we have Owen Harper:

Owen Harper is a white shimmer polish with red, yellow, green, blue, purple and silver glitter and larger purple hex glitter. White with glitter is really popular in the indie world right now and I love it. I love white polish and glitter, so I'm all for it :) This one applied really well. I got the purple hexes onto the nail without having to do any fishing.

Fanservice Nails polishes are available here for $11 each or 3 for $28. Ships super fast too :)

Summer Challenge: Summer Lovin'

I'm finally doing another theme from the Summer Challenge! The theme today is Summer Lovin'. I decided to draw from one of my favorite summer songs about love. I've already shown my love for Katy Perry on this blog before and it didn't hurt that I just saw the Katy Perry movie and ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT! Go see it, it's fabulous!

I remember exactly when I first heard this song. I had spent half my summer studying abroad in Rome and heard California Gurls pretty much every day. They were obsessed with it. Then I got home and went on a road trip with my best friends. They were watching VH1 in the other room and I was curling my hair in the laundry room (it was a weird house). I heard the song through the water heater vent. I was so mesmerized that I put my straightener down and went into the other room to hear the whole thing. I was in love with it.

Here are the specific lines that inspired the nails:

"I'm a get your heart racing in my skin-tight jeans be your teenage dream tonight"

"I finally found you my missing puzzle piece I'm complete"

"Let's go all the way tonight no regrets, just love we can dance, until we die you and I, will be young forever"

"We drove to Cali and got drunk on the beach"

Colors used: Julep Mila, China Glaze Orange You Hot?, Splish Splash, Man Hunt, Flirty Tankini, OPI Last Friday Night, Essence Romeo & Julia, Color Club Turn the Other Chic, Kleancolor Funky Yellow, Sally Hansen Whirlwind White, Bundle Monster Plate BM 319. If you'd like any more details, leave me a comment :)

Blogger Friends Forever: Cartoons

Today I'm started an exciting new challenge with some fellow bloggers. We each get a week in the challenge in which we get to choose two themes. The first week is Thiamere's choice. Her first pick was cartoons. I agonized over what to do for FOREVER! I really wanted to do Futurama, but Bec (also participating in the challenge) did awesome Futurama nails before. I thought of a bunch of cartoons, but could not or didn't want to do more than one character. I finally decided to do skittles!

Here's Brendan from Home Movies, Cosmo (as a fish) from Fairly Odd Parents, Dexter from Dexter's Lab and Bender from Futurama. You might be wondering where my pinky is...after two failed designs (Daria and Fry are really hard to draw!) and a late night, I gave up and just topped it with Black Cat Lacquer Tetris haha.

To do this I used a Sally Hansen Nail Art Pen in black, Nailritz pens in various colors and Essence Romeo for Bender. I'm proudest of Dexter. I really like how Brendan came out too, but he's not very detailed, so it wasn't too hard :)

Rainbow Favorites: Orange

Day two of the Rainbow Favorites Challenge is orange! I have quite a few great oranges, but I decided to go with my first favorite. I got this at the start of last summer when I first started obsessively buying nail polish :)

This is three coats of Sally Hansen Crushed. It was my go-to color of last summer. It's a slightly pink tone orange shimmer and is glowy in the sunlight.

I just got the new Bundle Monster plates in and couldn't wait to play with them!

I chose the citrus stamp from BM 308 and stamped with Sally Hansen Lightening. I really love how this turned out!

The stamp worked so well that my nails almost looked like nail stickers! And I'm not that good of a stamper, y'all! I'm really impressed with this set so far.

Summer Challenge: Kites

Today's summer challenge prompt was Kites or Balloons. I chose kites! I'm not very good with kites, and in my part of the world, it has to be a pretty heavy-duty kite to withstand our wind.

I started with two coats of Sally Hansen Yellow Kitty...I just got that name. It rhymes with Hello Kitty...oh man, I feel dumb hahaha. Anywhooooo! Then I freehanded kites and tails with Color Club Hydrangea Kiss, L.A. Colors Circuits, Sally Hansen Heat Flash, Went n Wild FuchsiaRama, OPI Thanks a Windmillion, Color Club Sweet Pea, and OPI I Don't Give a Rotterdam. They're not perfect, but neither are kites swirling around in the wind :)

Monkey See Monkey Do Monday: Splatter

Welcome to another Monkey See Monkey Do Monday! I saw this splatter mani on Nail Polish Wars the other day and absolutely loved it. Since I recently purchased the same set, I decided to try replicating it.

I started with Color Club Almost Famous and then Used a straw to splatter Mrs. Robinson, Twiggie, Wham! Pow!, Warhol and Pucci-licious. I kinda had a few crappy splatters in the beggining, but I got it worked out in the end ;)

Summer Challenge: Summer Sunset

I'm a day late on this challenge :/ And earlier today I looked down and all the polish on one nail just popped completely off! Hence the weird hand position.

I started with a base of Icing Peachy Keen because it was right between orange and yellow. Then I sponged OPI In My Back Pocket, Color Club Almost Famous, and Color Club Blushing Rose. Then I sponged Wet n Wild 9.0.2.1.Orange over everything.

Summer Challenge: Orange Freestyle

For today's challenge, I chose to use Color Club Wham! Pow! from the Poptastic collection. It's a gorgeous orange neon that applies really well and looks really juicy after top coat. Here's 3 coats.

These pics looks kind of weird because the brightness of this color freaked my camera out.

Here it is with flash. It gives a better representation of how bright this color is (even if it makes my skin look really weird).
